Memorial Day! Summer is here! We sure could use some rain but there's not a cloud in the sky.

Miles and Miles

I don't even want to imagine how many miles I've driven the lawn mower already this year. I mowed another 2.3 hours today and am not even half done. I think I got a little sunburned, too.

Thundery Morning and Evening

5-25-10Looks like the grass has not stopped growing. I need to get the mower out again! Today we had a little rain and it looks tonight like we might be having more. I'm hearing thunder out there right now.

Sauna

It's unseasonably hot today and windy. I had to water my little tomato plants which were looking pretty droopy. I have only ONE pepper plant left now; the rabbits have eaten the others which were not protected.

(Un)Officially Summer

It's hot enough (upper 80's) and humid enough to be a summer day in July. This sudden change is bit uncomfortable. I turned on the air conditioning, just to remove some of the humidity. Tomorrow's high temperature is supposed to be in the 90's!

Eddy Currents

It's too bad this photo isn't a video because things are really blowing around out there. I did get about 90 minutes of mowing done and ended up covered by grass clippings.

The skies cleared off this evening but before that it was a gray day with a little bit of rain. I saw baby geese on the lake tonight.

A Little Rain Today

It's been windy today and there were some light sprinkles of rain late this afternoon. The rest of the tomatoes are in the ground now, along with the peppers, and I mowed for two hours. Whew!

We had good news of a successful doctoral dissertation defense in North Dakota today. That's a huge hurdle.

Tomatoes in the Ground

This afternoon I got about half my tomato plants planted in the garden. It was a bit breezy so I put some old plant containers around them to protect them. Tomorrow I'll get the rest of the tomatoes planted, along with some peppers.

This evening I'm off to listen to some bells ringing!

It was just another in a string of very nice days. I got a lot of mowing done, some more garden planted, and just hung around outside as much as I could. We even slept with the windows open last night. Today I put the electric mattress pad away until next November.

Playing with Fire

For the second weekend in a row I got to have a bonfire in the grove. I used the excuse "just cleaning up some dead branches that blew down" to indulge in one of my favorite activities. I'm exhausted now and just had a relaxing bath.

Nicer Weather

I mowed when I got home from school, then grilled chicken for supper. It's a beautiful day.

Looks like I need to take care of the weeds in the cracks in the sidewalk.

Foggy Start

It started out quite foggy this morning but by late this afternoon and evening the skies have started to clear and we can see a bit of blue sky. Local creeks and streams are out of their banks and fields are flooded after the rains this week. Now we need some drying time!

Dark and Drippy

We've had periods of very heavy rain and thunderstorms this afternoon. I do need to mow but I guess I won't be mowing today.

Today I See BRIGHT

It may be an overcast day today but I'm seeing plenty of brightness. I went to the eye doctor and had to drive home with dilated eyes so I was thankful for the clouds.

Another Rainy Monday

More wind, more rain, chilly. I went to school, then did a little shopping. I'm certainly glad I didn't try to get my tomato plants in the ground a week or two ago when the weather was so nice. I guess you could call our weather "unsettled" now.

Happy Mother's Day!

It was a nice day. I got to participate in one of my favorite activities - cleaning up the grove and having a little fire with all the sticks I picked up. I also planted seven trees.

Frost Warning

I saw a Baltimore oriole today, the first one I've ever seen here. It's cold today, windy, and cloudy so I've been doing some spring cleaning. I brought in some of the houseplants that I moved outside when it was warmer; tonight it's supposed to freeze.

This is More Like It

Today you can go outside without risking being blown off your feet. It's cool and cloudy with a light breeze. I planted sweet corn and green beans in my garden along with some sunflowers. I also got some mowing done as you can see by the grass on the sidewalk. Rain is in the forecast now.

And I Thought Yesterday Was Windy...

Yesterday's breezes were mere zephyrs compared to today's blasts from the west. We have some wind erosion occurring in fields nearby. This photo doesn't really do it justice:

Blue Sky and Wind

I got the garden tilled today, finally. This afternoon is very windy and warm.

More of the Same

Breezy, mild, sunny. A lot of corn is getting planted now that the fields have dried out again. Just another in a string of nice days. The lilacs sure smell good right now.

Missed May Day

It was a beautiful day today until mid-afternoon when some clouds rolled in and we got some showers. Yes, I missed yesterday's posting. I thought about the photo several times but just never got it taken. Yesterday was nice but windy,

As I look at today's photo I'm thinking, do I really need to mow again already?
