Blown Away

3-30-10
March is known for wind and today certainly was a windy one. Very warm, however, and the grass is getting greener by the minute. I saw a garden full of daffodils in bloom today but south of us, in Des Moines.

Not Again!

3-29-10
I did it again. I totally forgot to take a photo yesterday so, as far as this blog is concerned, March 28, 2010, never happened. Actually, it was a busy Palm Sunday so that's probably why I forgot.

Today, well, the grass is getting greener and it's a bit breezy. It looks a lot like yesterday.

Busy Saturday

3-27-10
A busy and productive day. We are putting a new laminate floor in a bedroom, I got groceries, and we exercised at the lake.

Good Kite Flying Day

3-26-10
It was a too windy and a bit chilly to be a perfect day but it was sunny. A typical March day.

I hear there is a big game tonight and I spotted a LOT of purple and gold clothing today...

It's Late

3-25-10
It's late, I'm tired, and I'm heading to bed. It was a nice day, though. The grass is getting greener every day.

Overcast

3-24-10
A busy day, and more busy-ness yet to come. Here's what's blooming in the flower bed:

Spring Signs

3-23-10
I saw noticed more signs that it is really spring today: I saw a butterfly and a blooming dandelion, and I heard frogs. There are still small piles of snow left where there were big drifts.

Sore Legs

3-22-10

I froze at school this morning as the boiler broke over spring break and it was only 51° in the library. They had the new part located and installed by noon but I was chilled to the bone. This afternoon I ran two miles, very slowly, and am feeling the pain!

Last Day of Spring Break

3-21-10
It's back to school tomorrow, spring break is over. The grass is starting to turn green and we'll be mowing soon.

Spring?

3-20-10
We woke up to about an inch of snow on the ground this morning but by this evening it was almost all melted. A strong north wind made it seem more wintry than spring-like, but at least the calendar says it's spring!

Poor Robins!

3-19-10
This is not good weather for the robins. We're expecting an inch or two of snow overnight. I had to resort to running on the treadmill today instead of braving the wintry weather.

Clouding Up

3-18-10
Today was a lovely, spring-like, day. I made a trip to Des Moines and back and noticed several farm tractors on the roads, getting in position for spring planting.

Don't Get Too Attached

3-17-10

March weather can be very fickle so don't let this beautiful weather fool you. Spring isn't really here yet.
Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

One Step Back

3-16-10
Yesterday's nice weather was too good to last. Today we have clouds, drizzle, and much cooler temperatures. That's OK. The snow crocuses are blooming, spring is three days away. It was a good day to get inside things done, not that I accomplished a lot.

Monday, March 15, 2010

Spring-like

3-15-10
Windy but warm. I'm thinking about starting some seeds - tomatoes, peppers, and marigolds - and located my seedling starter trays. We'll be mowing soon!

This is More Like It

3-14-10

By the calendar, it is still winter for five more days but today it sure felt like spring. I ran outside today for the first time. Boy is that asphalt trail hard on the back! I guess I need new running shoes.

Gray Day, Gray Dog

3-13-10
Another photo of Bear, looking mighty fine. It was a slow Saturday, not much going on.

And...We Have Dog

3-12-10

We lost much more snow today, small creeks and rivers are flooding, and the redwinged blackbirds are back. Bear spent several minutes rolling in the grass. What a life!

More Fog, Less Snow

3-11-10

The fog cleared a few hours after I took this photo but it was still cloudy. A large flock of grackles descended on our yard. When I start hearing the redwinged blackbirds, I'll know it's spring!

Missed a Day!

Yes, I wasn't able to get a photo yesterday but just imagine the inside of a dirty, gray cottonball and you pretty much know what yesterday was like - very foggy.

Here is the photo for 3-8-10, another foggy day:

Below is today's photo, 3-10-10. It started out very foggy, then cleared a bit. You can see the snow is disappearing!

Two Days' Worth

I am able to post only every other day right now but I have been able to get a photo every day. Here is the one from yesterday, 3-6-10, when it was nice and sunny:

Yesterday afternoon we got rain. Today it was cloudy and foggy:

(That bit of fur at the bottom of the photo is part of the tail of Bear, our Norwegian Elkhound.)

Snow is Receding

More family concerns have delayed my blogging but here are photos from yesterday and today:

You can see that the snow is disappearing!

Sunny and Milder

Family concerns kept me from posting yesterday but I did take a photo:

3-2-10

I was able to get a photo today, just before sunset:

We're Melting, Melting!

3-1-10

I believe that the great melt-down of winter 2009-2010 has begun! This could get very messy, but at least it's warmer. I won't complain.
